S Korea donates Bangladesh 130 computers

DHAKA: South Korea on Sunday (May 8) donated 130 computers for some rural areas of Bangladesh as contribution to latter’s overall ICT development.

The donation came from a program, organized by the ICT Division, at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in city.

The computers were distributed among nine municipalities -- Shingra, Gurudaspur, Nator, Shariatpur, Feni, Maulvibazar, Jaipurhat, Ponchogor and Chondonaish.

These computers will assist to establish a better equipped IT Lab for the people as well as for the government officials in each municipality.

State Minister of the ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, attended the event as chief guest and Korea’s ambassador to Bangladesh Ahn Seong-doo was the special Guest.

ICT Secretary Shyam Sundar Sikder, additional secretary of ICD division Banamali Bhoumik BASIS president and the mayors from nine municipalities also attended the ceremony.  

Ahn Seong-doo said “The ‘Green PC of love project’ was initiated under the Science, ICT and Future Planning Ministry of Korea in order to build ICT cooperation systems and to resolve the gap in digitization among different countries by providing PCs to developing countries.

“130 units of computers seem to be small number. However, small change will make a big difference. As the old Korean adage says “A good beginning is half done”, I hope these assets today will build a bridge to connect rural areas to the world tomorrow.”  

Palak extended his deep gratitude and sincere thanks to Ahn Seong-doo for the gifts to the tech savvy people of the Bangladesh.

He added: “This is only beginning. I am pretty sure during his (Ahn Seong-doo) tenure Bangladesh Korea bilateral relations will reach a newer height”.
