DHAKA: Country’s largest telecom operator Grameenphone (GP) is offering one smartphone every 20 minutes for the customers who are re-registering their SIMs to strengthen re-registration process.
The offer will be available everyday from 10:00am to 8:00pm till May 31.
According to the government directive, all unregistered SIMs will be deactivated from zero hour of June 1.
The first person re-registering on every twentieth minute of an hour will be awarded with an Okapia co-branded smartphone.
Winners will be notified through SMS and will have to collect their phone by July 15.
Moreover, every customer who comes to re-register during this period will get free talk-time worth BDT 200.
This talk-time will be valid for seven days and can be used for GP to GP calls only. The offer will be available till May 27.
The extended time for biometric re-registration of mobile SIM cards will end on May 31. All Grameenphone customers who are yet to register have been requested to complete re-registration by the deadline to avoid permanent disconnection.
In January, the government initiated re-registration of mobile phone subscribers through the biometric process.
Through this process customer’s NID and fingerprint is verified by the Election Commission (EC) against EC’s Database.
Re-registration is being done at more than 50,000 Grameenphone biometric points across the country.
Subscribers are required to bring a copy of their National Identity (NID) Card, a passport-size photograph and the active SIM intended for re-registration.
