DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated a Bangladeshi messaging app, Alapon, on Monday (September 5) with the view to add 14 lakhs government employees to ease building Digital Bangladesh.
The premier inaugurated the app at the begging of regular cabinet meeting in the morning.
Government employees can carry out conversation and group chat to ease official tasks instantly through the “uninterrupted, reliable and secure medium of internal communication”.
This app, developed under the supervision of Department of Information and Technology, supports individual and group chats, voice and video call, group conference, messaging, sharing files at free of cost. The app can also locate position of the user.
Mobile number of specific officials’ from any ministry and department can be collected from the advanced search option of the app. Besides, high security measures were used in Alapon.
This app will require less data, charge and space which made it one of the best in its category.
The government could save money as Alapon does not require any extra cost except internet charge.
ICT department is expecting a revolutionary change in intra-government communication with the app.
ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, in last June, said that a local institution has developed a communication app like Viber, WhatsApp.
He also said this app will be used for intercommunication among 14 lakhs government employees.
