DHAKA: Posts and telecommunications state minister Tarana Halim categorically said that the instant messaging and VoIP apps Imo, Viber and Whatsapp are not being barred.
But the government will continue drives against illegal use of VoIP, she added.
The state minister made the assertion on Sunday (November 27) to clarify the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) statement on stopping Imo, Viber and Whatsapp.
“We have to stop illegal VoIP. Government will follow a ‘zero tolerance’ policy in this regard.”
Regarding the free VoIP apps like Imo, Viber and Whatsapp, Tarana said that the government did not take any decision in barring the apps.
“These apps will continue and not to be banned,” she stated.
