DHAKA: Mobile phone operator Robi will launch 3G network in Dhaka and Chittagong divisions in October for providing faster internet services to its valued subscribers.
Robi CEO, also Managing Director Micheal Kuehner came up with the disclosure in a press briefing in a city hotel on Tuesday.
Kuehner said that with the help of internationally famous organization Axiata for their service of 3G and LTE (Long Term Evaluation), Robi will provide the 3G service in the country.
Kuehner also said, “Robi will start providing the service in small arena…gradually, 30 percent of users will be provided 3G service within the year.”
Robi official also said, “This is a new technology for all of us. We will pay heed to quality service along with speed.”
We will extend the service in Chittagong, Comilla, Sylhet by the year. Robi will invest $200 millions in the 3G sector, he further said.
Chief Technology Officer of Robi AKM Morshed said that the subscribers of 3.5G will get more speed than existing 3G services.
Robi Axiata Ltd bagged 5MHz of 3G spectrum from an auction arranged by BTRC. The 3G service will help operators provide their users different services including high speed wireless internet, TV output and video conference.
