DHAKA: Telecom and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar said internet and Facebook services will be suspended in future if any circumstance emerges that may endanger the state.
The minister was replying to queries of reporters after finishing a program organized at a city hotel in the capital on Monday (August 6).
He also said, “If I saw today, Facebook has endangered my state, and I’m to make a choice between my state and Facebook, I would, definitely, have to save my country first. Therefore, I would have to do the needful.”
Safety of the state is given priority, then safety of people, and other issues come after them, he said.
Asked if internet service would be slowed down ahead of national election and others, the minister said, “The decision will be taken given the situation.”
Fake news of students’ movement circulated through Facebook on August 4. Later, the government shut 3G and 4G internet service from the evening for 24 hours.
