DHAKA: Bangladesh Mobile Phone User Association observed a symbolic strike demanding reduction of mobile phone call rate and internet price adjustment.
The body organized the program in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday (October 9) protesting the existing ‘irregularities’ in the telecommunication sector also.
As a token strike, the group kept their phones switched off from 11am to 12 am.
The platform said, “All of a sudden, the voice call rate increased by 50 to 70 per cent on 14 August in name of bringing balance in call rate. In addition, the government has withdrawn 10 percent VAT on internet in the budget of current year, but it has not been implemented yet. We, therefore, demand quick implementation of the decision of 10 percent VAT withdrawal, and lowering voice call rate to a logical level.”
