DHAKA: Post, Telecommunication and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar underscored the need for avoiding duality of developmental projects to save government funds.
The minister was addressing as chief guest at an inauguration program on a pilot project titled ‘Avoiding duality of development projects’ in Faridpur upazila of Pabna through video conferencing from his Agargaon office in Dhaka on Thursday (October 18).
The initiative was taken by government’s Access to Information (A2I) program.
Jabbar said it is difficult to avoid duality in many cases while implementing developmental projects. Because of such ambivalence, delay in the implementation process and waste of money can be witnessed often. Duality can be avoided easily while taking new projects in hand and analyzing old projects’ data with the proper use of digital technology. It will save taxpayers money and benefit the country. However, updating project information is a must in this process.
ICT Department Acting Secretary ABM Arshad Hossain and A2I project director Md Mostafizur Rahman among other officials concerned were present at the inaugural program.
On the Pabna side, additional divisional commissioner, deputy commissioner and public representatives among others were also present.
Jabbar said Bangladesh could not lead any of the three major revolutions that took place in the past but it is ahead in the digital revolution. Bangladesh’s position in various indexes is better than other countries. Bangladesh is now investing in many foreign countries and it was possible due to many effective initiatives taken and implemented by the current government.
It is to be noted that whether any new project has any duality with a previous project can be checked online easily using this software. The software will also provide necessary and related information regarding the projects to minimize cost and time. The new digital system will reduce corruption, establish proper database in 492 upazilas of the country and improve skill in administrative management. Under this system, the government will be able to save around USD 246 million every year. Moreover, local representatives and upazila administration will be benefited by the digitalized system while implementing projects.
