DHAKA: The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Directorate has signed an accord with China Railway International Group (CRIG) to implement a project "Establishing Digital Connectivity" with an aim to provide high speed internet connectivity into remote areas of the country.
Director General of ICT Directorate AKM Khairul Alam and Bangladesh chief representative of China Railway International Group (CRIG) Wei Xiaojun signed the deal on behalf of their respective organizations.
The project is being implemented under ICT Directorate with an estimated expenditure of Tk 8,000 crore. It will be implemented from January 2019 to January 2021.
Post, Telecommunication and ICT minister Mustafa Jabbar, ICT Division secretary Zuena Aziz among other ministry officials, CRIG president Chen Shiping, vice president Wang Lijie and its South Asia managing director Yuan Zuociang were also present at the accord signing ceremony.
Internet service will be available everywhere in the country at the same price once the project is implemented. Moreover, a total of 35,500 Sheikh Rasel digital laboratories will be installed in root level educational institutions from which some 70,000 students will be benefited. High technology based laboratories will al be installed in country’s 54 public libraries that will open scopes for IOT, Advance Computing. Modern and sophisticated ICT training lab will be installed in 64 districts and 491 upazilas. A 21-storey building with the latest ICT technology facility will be built to boost the capacity of the ICT Department. A total of 100 Digital Village will be set up to develop Foreign Ministry’s ICT capacity and increase agricultural production while 10,000 farmers will be trained on ICT Technology.
