TV, YouTube not substitute for cinema: Hasan Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at the meeting

DHAKA: Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said TV, YouTube or Netflix cannot be substitute for cinema. 

“Cinema is the substitute for cinema, nothing else,” Hasan said at the inaugural ceremony of the 7th National Film Day in Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on Wednesday (April 3).

The minister inaugurated the day by releasing doves and flying balloons in front of Manna Digital Complex at BFDC at 10:30 am.

Hasan said, “Cinema can change canvas of society. Cinema can make people laugh and cry, working as a mirror of society. Film industry has no alternative to it in the entire world.”

A rally was brought from the BFDC with the slogan ‘Culture survives if cinema survives.’

The minister also said various projects have been taken to modernize BFDC. Already, modern instruments have been bought at a cost of Taka 53 crore. Besides, a modern building is being constructed in BFDC at a cost of Taka 322 crore, where films can be made using modern technology. It has got a Cineplex too.

Legendary actor Syed Hasan Imam, film actors Alamgir and Ilias Kanchan, information secretary Abdul Malek, Bangladesh Television (BTV) Director General Harun-Ar-Rashid were present among others.
