DHAKA: A day-long international seminar on space Law was held at Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) on Saturday (August 24). 

Center for Air and Space Law, Department of Law of the university organized the seminar titled ‘Commercial Exploitation of Outer Space through Satellites: Prospects and Challenges’. 

In the seminar, some of the promising research works on the area of National and International Aerospace Law were presented by the attendees, said a press release issued Sunday (August 25). 

Prof Dr Golam Ahmed Faruqi, Dean of Faculty of Law GUB presided over the seminar while Professor Stephan Hobe, Institute of Air and Space Law, University of Cologne, Germany addressed the occasion as key speaker. 

Prof Dr Muhammad Fayyaz Khan, Pro VC of GUB; Md Shaharul Huda, Pro VC of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University, Prof Dr Sarkar Ali Akkas, Jagannath University; Dr Parvez Ahmed, Chairman of Law spoke as guest. Chairpersons of different departments, faculty members and students were present in the seminar.

The conference provided a multi-disciplinary platform for international and national experts to discuss and learn various aspects of space activity aligned with international space law and policy. Therefore, the conference aimed to bring together leading academic and non-academic researchers, legal experts, innovators, investors and students to exchange and share their experiences, concerns and challenges in the field of space law and activity.

Keynote speaker Prof Stephan Hobe discussed the jurisprudential enigmas of the international space treaty. He thoroughly discussed the provisions of the international space treaties and emphasized the importance of a more solid and authoritarian set of laws to regulate the traffic and resources management of the outer space

Dr Parvez Ahmed, Chairman of Law mentioned the importance and significance of space law in Bangladesh.
