RAJSHAHI: The government is planning to install facial recognition cameras in every city of the country vowing to curb criminal activities.
ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak made the disclosure while inaugurating a tree plantation program at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Hi-Tech Park in Rajshahi on Tuesday (September 10).
"Face recognition cameras to be installed in each city of the country, upon direction from the prime minister," he said.
"Initiative is being taken so that one hundred of face recognition cameras can serve like minimum 200 policemen,"
"After feasibility study, work on the initiative will start soon," added Palak.
The state minister further said that the facial recognition cameras with higher technology more than close-circuit ones will identify criminals easily.
However, the tree plantation program was chaired by Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Nur-ur-Rahman with Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton as the chief guest.
