DHAKA: Japanese ambassador to Dhaka Shiro Sadoshima said that there is a huge possibility of Bangladeshi garment products in Japan apparel market.
He told the media at Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) press conference at city’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Monday.
Bangladesh commerce minister Tofail Ahmed was present at the conference as chief guest. Planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal was present among others.
The Japan envoy said that a larger apparel market exists in his country and Bangladesh is the second largest RMG exporter in the world. But a few volumes of Bangladeshi apparels go to the Japan market.
Bangladeshi garment entrepreneurs can step into the Japan market, he added.
The Japan envoy also assured all sorts of cooperation from their government.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed at the conference informed the media that 75 percent of Bangladesh RMG products are being exported to Europe and the USA markets while 55 percent imported from Asia region.
It makes an unbalancing situation in trade. Besides, there are some challenges in ‘supply chain’, he added.
According to the top business official, Bangladesh should put emphasis on the Asian region in balancing the trade.
