PARBATIPUR (DINAJPUR): Coal extraction began in Barapukuria mine in Dinajpur on Monday.
The production began with the extraction of 5,000 metric tonnes coal after a hiatus of six months.
The extraction is expected to meet the supply of fuel in two units of 250mw thermal power plant.
Sources said that it is also expected that the extracted coal will also be sold to other industries. It will also be available in open market.
Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited managing director Aminuzzaman told banglanews Monday evening about 4 thousand and 800 metric tonnes coal had been extracted in past 24 hours.
He claimed that the production has brought confidence among the staff of the company.
According to him, about 2 thousand tons of coal will be need to keep the power units running.
He further said that about 50 thousand tons of coal has been reserved in its coal yard and about 20 thousand tons in the power house.
