DHAKA: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran visited the Bangladesh Standards Testing Institute (BSTI) at Tejgaon on Monday.
He visited the work of a joint project of the two countries for the upgradation of the BSTI involving US$ 2.13 million following a Joint Communiqué signed during the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India in 2010.
The contract for the project was signed in November 2013 following which supplies from India for the project are well underway.
The project is expected to be completed before the target date of June 2015.
Apart from upgradation of the facilities of BSTI, the BSTI and the Bureau of Indian Standards are also in discussion to conclude an Agreement on bilateral cooperation, the release added.
Both initiatives are aimed at facilitating easier trade between India and Bangladesh and streamlining testing procedures for exports to each other’s countries.
