DHAKA: State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid Bipu on Monday categorically said around $24 billion foreign investment would come in the power sector in the next six years, which will create huge jobs.
He made the disclosure while addressing a discussion meeting marking Victory Day, organised by Bangabandhu Prokousali Parishad (PDB Branch), at Power Development Board (PDB) in the evening.
Nasrul said, “We have to bring changes in our thoughts as the foreigners will invest around USD 24 billion in the power sector.”
He said, “We were thinking about 3000MW electricity which we need to give up and should make plans for 20,000MW electricity.”
He further said, “We have to develop the power production and distribution systems.”
With president of Bangabandhu Prokousali Parishad (PDB Branch) Engineer Kajal Kanti Chowdhuri in the chair, chairman of the organisation Professor Habibur Rahman and general secretary Engineer Nuruzzaman also among other addressed the meeting.
