DHAKA: Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader said that international tender has been called for new three bridges on Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
The 4-lane bridges will be constructed by the existing ones over Shitalkkhya, Meghna and Gomati rivers on Dhaka-Chittagong highway with the financial assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Moreover, the existing bridges on the rivers will be repaired soon.
The minister told the media on Wednesday that about Tk 8,000 crore will cost in feasibility tests, appointing consultants, construction of new bridges, supervision, repairing the old bridges and construction of a flyover and intersection at Kanchpur.
According to the minister, JICA will provide Tk 6,500 crore while the government will give the rest amount of money.
Feasibility tests, appointing consultants and designs of bridges have already been complete, he added.
Quader said that the last date of tender submission has been fixed on April 27 and work order for the bridge construction will be given in September this year.
The minister hoped that the construction works of the bridges will begin in November.
