DHAKA: Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday said some 5.5 lakh people would be recruited when special economic zone at Mirersharai in Chittagong will be established.
The minister made assertion while addressing a certificate giving ceremony of a three-day foundation workshop for journalists organized by Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).
The workshop was organized with cooperation of Chittagong Journalists Forum, Dhaka (CJFD).
He said, “The government has primarily acquired 6500 acres of land and later it would acquire total 12000 acres of land to establish the economic zone.”
The government has also taken initiative a project to develop Chittagong as a planned city involving Tk 1700 crore.
He also said, “The government is now constructing an attractive marine drive between Patenga and Fojderhat in Chittagong for exploring potentials of the attractive natural scenery there.”
The government would establish an electricity hub with capacity to generate 10,000MW Matarbari in Cox’s Bazar.
He said the government estimated to invest a total of Tk 35,000 crore to establish the power hub.
Daily Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shymal Dutta, PIB Director General Shah Alamgir, Dhaka Union of Journalists President Altaf Mahmud, CJFD President Saif Islam Dilal and General Secretary Shamim Jahangir also spoke at the function.
