DHAKA: Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd Tuesday proposed increasing the gas price by 122 percent for the domestic users’ double burner to Tk 1,000 per month from the existing Tk 450.
For the single burner, the rate was proposed to be fixed at Tk 850 from Tk 400 hiking by 112 percent.
A mass hearing is underway on Titas’ proposal at TCB auditorium in city’s Karwan Bazar from the morning.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission chairman MR Khan, along with commission member Dr Selim Mahmud, Engineer Delwar Hossain, Rahman Murshed and Maqsudul Haque were receiving the mass hearing.
Besides, Titas proposed to increase the price of every 1,000 cubic meter from Tk 79.82 to Tk 84 for electricity production, from Tk 72.92 to 80 for fertilizer production, from Tk 118.26 to 240 for captive power, from Tk 268.09 to 350 for industrial use, from Tk 165.91 to 200 for tea gardens and to Tk 1,000 from 849.50 for CNG-run vehicles.
Titas said government has approved the proposal of fixing the price of every 1,000 cubic meter gas at Tk 25, adding that it was directed to send proposals to Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) about adjusting gas price.
The Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd is the largest natural gas distributor in Bangladesh, with an 80 percent market share.
The total number of subscribers of Titas Gas is 1,722,712.
