EU-Bangladesh aviation deal signed

DHAKA: Bangladesh and the European Union (EU) have signed an aviation agreement, ‘Horizontal Aviation’ on Friday aiming to boost air connectivity between Dhaka and European countries.

The deal was signed after the sixth meeting of sub-group of the EU-Bangladesh Joint Commission on trade and financial cooperation at the state guest house Padma.

After the signing the agreement, European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Pierre Mayaudon said that EU has a long-term economic relation with Bangladesh.

Trade relations between Bangladesh and EU countries will be improved from this agreement, he hoped.

However, Pierre Mayaudon came up with the assertions in a press briefing after the agreement signing ceremony.

Issues like progress on trade relation improving trade relations between Bangladesh and EU countries, identifying trade barriers and what steps need to be taken to remove the barriers, investment environment apart from regional and sub regional issues were discussed in the meeting.

He also mentioned that EU is interested to invest in Bangladesh.

Manoj Kumar Roy, Additional Commerce Secretary of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) wing, told banglanews that they had a talk with EU representatives on RMG sector of Bangladesh, expanding bilateral trade, invest environment in Bangladesh and other important issues.

Meanwhile, Manoj Kumar Roy led the Bangladesh side while Diana Acconcia, Deputy Chief of the EU South and South East Asia unit, led the 14-member EU representatives.
