DHAKA: Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Mohammad Atiqul Islam categorically said the readymade garment (RMG) sector can reach its goal if an investment friendly environment is created.
He made the comment during a meeting with US ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat at BGMEA building in the city on Thursday noon.
Mentioning the existing challenges in RMG sector, the BGMEA boss put emphasis on creating a business and investment friendly environment in the country.
He further said that they are working to ensure compliance at the garment factories and hoped that the program under the National Action Plan will be complete by April this year.
Commending the process of ensuring compliance, the US envoy vowed that her government will provide all sorts of assistance to Bangladesh RMG sector.
However, the BGMEA said that a total of Tk 189-crore have been made loss due to the ongoing political crisis in the country.
BGMEA former presidents Abdus Salam Murshedy and Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, among others, were present at the meeting.
