DHAKA: A three-day international tourism fair, titled ‘Monitor Dhaka Travel Mart’ will begin on April 9 in the city.
Civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon will inaugurate the fair at 4:00pm on the day at Sonargaon Pan Pacific Hotel while ministry’s secretary Khorshed Alam Chowdhury will be present as special guest.
Travel periodical ‘The Bangladesh Monitor’ will organize the fair in association with Bangladesh Tourism Board, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Organizing committee chairman and also ‘The Bangladesh Monitor’ editor Kazi Wahidul Alam made the announcement at a press conference at Sonargaon Pan Pacific Hotel on Monday.
Bangladesh Tourism Board chief executive officer (CEO) Akhtar-uz-Zaman, among others, spoke at the conference.
Terming the upcoming fair a ‘milestone event’, Kazi Wahidul Alam hoped that they are expecting about 15,000 visitors at the fair as about 12,000 people visited past year’s exposition.
According to him, more foreign holidaymakers should be attracted in the country to make tourism a sustainable sector.
Mentioning the government’s declaration of 2016 as ‘Tourism Year’, Akhtar-uz-Zaman said that they have set a target to attract a significant number of foreign tourists next year.
However, besides the host Bangladesh, organizations from at least 50 countries will participate in the fair, to be open from 10:00am to 8:00pm till April 11.
