DHAKA: The three-day 10th Nitol-Niloy Dhaka Motor Show and Dhaka Bike Show kicked off on Thursday with the view to showcase new vehicles and aftermarket components.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the exposition at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in city at noon.
‘CEMS (Conference & Exhibition Management Services Ltd), Global USA’ in association with `CEMS Bangladesh’ organized the automobile and auto-components show.
The minister said automobile producing and importing organizations should increase importing vehicles for public transport to reduce traffic congestion and human sufferings which have soared due to increasing number of private cars.
Quader also called on to raise the proficiency level of drivers to decrease the number of road accidents.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, in his speech as special guest, expected that Bangladesh will acquire the efficiency to produce motor vehicles soon. He also urged the businesspeople to invest in this sector.
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) president Hossain Khaled said the automobile sector of the country is yet to achieve stability. “Investors are subsidizing in the sector,” he added.
Khaled also said adoption of a proper guideline for the sector will help increase the investment in the sector and create jobs for the country people.
Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Nitol-Niloy Group of Industries chairman, one of the prime conglomerates of the country, said youth are losing their interest in motorbikes due to its higher price and registration fee.
He also urged the investors to come forward with a solution of the problem.
Meherun N Islam, President & Group Managing Director of CEMS-Global - USA & Asia-Pacific, said the automobile show was arranged for the 10th time in Bangladesh.
“Besides the motor show, for the first time we have arranged motorbike show. Ten foreign organizations have participated in the event,” she added.
She also expressed gratitude for the open and spacious area of ICCB that was provided for the show.

Local and foreign automobile producing, assimilating and distributing organizations have taken part in the show that has setup more than 400 stalls.
Local and foreign organizations are showcasing cutting-edge technology based vehicles, auto-components of motorcycles, lubricant and CNG conversion kits.
Nitol-Niloy Group of Industries has participated in the show as title sponsor while Uttara Group as cosponsor and TVS the Gold Sponsor.
Besides Banglanews24.com, The Daily Star, Dainik Samakal and Revolution are the media partners of the showcase. Independent TV, a private television channel, and Radio Foorti are the broadcast partners while Market Edge Ltd is the creative partner and Bikroy.com is the online partner.
The show will remain open to all from 10:00am to 8:30pm everyday.
The organizers said besides learning about the latest models of Hyundai, Mercedes, Range Rover, Mitsuoka, Toyota Prius and many other brands, visitors can book vehicles.
