DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr Atiur Rahman expected that the poverty rate will come down to four percent if the prevailing economic growth is continued.
The central bank chief made this remark while addressing a seminar at Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) in city on Saturday morning.
Citing a recent BB research, the governor said that the poverty rate will lessen to four percent if the prevailing economic growth is continued.
Works to reach the goal is also underway, he added.
Moreover, a decision has been made in the latest BB board meeting to reinvest Tk 200-crore for the development of dairy farms and products.
He also said that it will bring a revolutionary outcome if female workers of readymade garments can be involved in mobile banking.
Terming Bangladesh economy stable, Dr Atiur further said that BB has already taken several programs to encounter the affect of climate change in the country.
BIBM director general Towfiq Ahmed Chowdhury chaired the seminar, attended by industries ministry additional secretary Mohammad Farhad Uddin as special guest.
