DHAKA: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the construction work of main structure of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge will begin in next October.
He came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at secretariat on Thursday.
The minster said hammer, weighing 2,500 tonnes, has already been made in Germany to do the piling work of Padma Bridge. It will reach Mongla Port on May 15.
The two-tier Padma Bridge with the provision for vehicles running above and trains below would be built with concrete and steel, said sources concerned.
After completion of the 6.15-kilometre bridge, designed to carry a highway and rail line, it will connect 19 southern districts with the capital.
