56 individuals get CIP status for 2014

DHAKA: The Government announced the names of 56 businesspeople and industrial entrepreneurs as Commercially Important Persons (CIP) of 2014 for their respective contributions in country’s economy.

The names that were announced on Thursday (April 30), chosen under seven categories including industrialization in private sector, goods production, creating employment and finally increasing national income.

Of the CIPs, 12 businesspeople got the cards with various facilities in ex-officio category, 21 from large-scale industries, 9 from medium-scale industries, six from small-scale industries, two from micro-scale industries, five from services and one from cottage industry categories.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu will hand over the cards to them on May 7.

CIPs from ex-officio category are The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Chamber of Industries President AK Azad, National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh President Mirza Nurul Gani Shovon, Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Atiqul Islam and Bangladesh Employers Federation President Tapan Chowdhury.

The list also include Women Entrepreneurs Association of Bangladesh President Nasreen Fatema Awal, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) President AKM Salim Osman, Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Sangita Ahmed, Bangladesh Jute Mills Association President Mohammad Shams-Uz-Joha, Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Rupali Haque Chowdhury, former president of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mohammad Shahjahan Khan and former president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rokia Afzal Rahman.

From the large scale industries, selected persons are Jabber and Jobayer Fabrics Ltd Managing Director (MD) Abdus Samad Mohammad Rafiqul Islam (Noman), MD Abdul Monem of Abdul Monem Limited, MD M Parvez Rahman of BRB Cable Industries Ltd, MD Selim Ahmed of Super Refinery Ltd, MD Mohammad Asadul Islam of Fariha Knit Tex Ltd, MD M Azharul Islam of Islam Re-Rolling Mills Ltd, MD M Shamsur Rahman of MRS Industries Ltd and MD Mirza Salman Ispahani of Pahartali Textile and Hosiery Mills.

According to the list, the others include MD Kutubuddin Ahmed of Envoy Textiles Ltd, MD Tanvir Ahmed of Cosmopolitan Industries Ltd, Fuji Inc Industries Limited Chairman Farhana Monem, MD MA Jalil of Polo Composite Knit Industry Ltd, MD Nasir Uddin of Universal Jeans Limited, MD Anjan Chowdhury of Square Consumer Products limited, BSRM Steels Ltd Chairman Ali Hossain Akbar Ali, ACI Formulations Ltd Chairman M Anis Ud Dowla, Pacific Jeans Ltd Director Syed Mohammad Tanvir, MD M Shahjahan of Jalal Ahmed Spinning Mills Ltd, Runner Automobiles Ltd Chairman Hafizur Rahman Khan, FARR Ceramics Ltd Chairman Khodeza Farhad Ruhi and Gem Jute Ltd Managing Director Kazi Enam Ahmed.

CIPs selected under medium industry category are Citadel Apparels Ltd Managing Director M Mahidul Islam Khan, BD Seafood Ltd Director Mohammad Badrul Haider Chowdhury, Oeko-Tex Ltd MD Abdus Sobhan, Basumati Distribution Ltd MD Z M Golam Nabi, BRB Polymer Ltd MD Mojibur Rahman, Gemini Sea Food Ltd Managing Director Kazi Shahid Ahmed, BD Foods Ltd Director Mohammad Tafhim Al-Azmi, Atlas Sea Food Ltd MD SM Mizanur Rahman and Igloo Foods Ltd Director ASM Moinuddin Monem.

CIPs selected under small industry category are Kiam Metal Industries Ltd MD Mizber Rahman, Baly Yarn Dyeing Ltd MD Masud Zaman, Footbed Footwear Ltd MD Aniruddho Kumer Ray, Karim Spinning Mills Ltd Chairman Abdul Hai Sarker, Amanat Shah Weaving Processing Ltd director Lutfa Begum, and Technomedia Ltd MD Joshoda Jibon Debnath.

CIPs selected under micro-industry category are RMM Leather Industries Chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin and AB Fashion Maker proprietor Sanaul Haque Babul while Janani Weaving Factory proprietor Rafiqul Islam was selected under cottage industry category.

Names of CIP recipients under the service sector are Navana Real Estate Vice-Chairman Sajedul Islam, STS Holdings Ltd Managing Director Khandaker Monir Uddin, Shanta Properties Ltd Director Jasmine Sultana, Navana Limited Chairman Shafiul Islam and Sheltech Limited Managing Director Dr Taufiq M Seraj.

The selected CIPs will enjoy a number of facilities including a card to be used for entering secretariat, invitation in national programs and city corporation’s citizen reception programs for next one year since the receiving date of the card.

During their business-related visits, they will get reserved seats in government’s air services, rail, road and waterways.

With regard to their visit abroad, they will be awarded with a letter of introduction from the foreign ministry which they can submit to high commissions and embassies for getting visas.

The CIPs, their spouses and children will get priority in getting cabin facilities in government hospitals for medical treatment. They will also be allowed to use VIP lounge in airports.

They will receive any kind of assistances from the law enforcing agencies and will receive the status of first class prisoner, if go to jail for any reason in the aforementioned time.

The government can also include their names as members while formulation of industry-related policy.
