DHAKA: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said the areas for 17 economic zones have been selected and China will get their preferable area.
The minister came up with this assertion while addressing a office inauguration program of Bangladesh-China Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCCI) in city’s Dilkusha commercial area on Wednesday.
He said China is the top readymade garments exporting country and Bangladesh is in second position. But the production cost is higher in China than Bangladesh. So, China wants to relocate their investment in Bangladesh.
Tofail said, “We are also ready to give the China investors all types of assistance and in this circumstances, we will give them the preferable spot under 17 economic zone.”
BCCCI president Golam Dastagir Gazi chaired the program where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Adviser Salman F Rahman, China Ambassador to Bangladesh Ma Mingqiang, former Industries Minister Dilip Barua, among others, were present at the event.
