DHAKA: Coffee House has been a common element in modern Bangla literature and in the lives of urban people.
Most of the Bangla music lovers have enjoyed the famous song ‘Coffee House-er sei adda ta aaj aar nei.., of Manna Dey. The image the song gives about the coffee house comes to everyone’s eyes.
It creates the desires to sit in a gathering (adda) with friends having hot coffee or in a business meeting. After a long study at home, one may get tired and then to have relief they can go to the coffee shop to energize themselves with a cup of coffee.
People look for a coffee shop where there will have no noise, only a melodious environment. The ‘Columbus Coffee Shop’ at Banani will be such an ideal place, informed its owner Mohaimin Mustafa.
‘Crimson Cup Coffee’, a famous brand of America is being served at this shop, he said adding, “We are the first franchisee in Bangladesh”.
One can enjoy coffee here in a self-service environment in the shop of 2000 square feet. “Besides coffee, we offer deserts like pastries in our shop. You may want to enjoy your coffee while standing or sitting at any corner of the shop”.
“We have also designed a selfie corner for our guests to have some fun by capturing the moments here at our shop!”
‘Columbus Coffee Shop’ is located at house no. 25, road no. 11 in Banana. Almost the entire interior of the shop has been colored following the hue of coffee.
Beauty of the nature can be experienced by the transparent clear glass, surrounding the whole shop. Keeping up with the interior design of the shop there is an arrangement of sufficient light.
It is impossible for one to not to be impressed by the artistic designs of the shop. The sharp fragrance of coffee and the art brings an enthusiastic feeling upon the whole shop.
Now, where should you throw the paper cup? The answer is as simple as the question. But normally there is a basket for this in most of the existing coffee shops of the country. But a slight carelessness while throwing the paper cup might make the floor dirty. But the basket here at Columbus is quite invisible! It will be difficult to figure how it works unless one visits the shop themselves.
Mohaimin Mustafa said, “We want to create a social gathering here. Our customers can witness the making of the delicious coffee. All the people who work here are very friendly”.
“Our workers are all trained from America. Steve Belles, the current president of Crimson Cup is training our workers from Dhaka. Under his commands our trained workers are successful at serving the coffee of same quality every time.”
Mohaimin Mustafa studied at Ohio State University in the USA. Tarek Rafi Bhuiyan and Ayesha Rawshan Bhuiyan – two of his senior also studied at the same university. After completing their studies, they decided to open a coffee shop returning home. Rehanur Rahman, a boyhood friend of Mohaimin Mustafa, also joined them. Later a line group joined.
Rehanur Rahman, a director of ‘Columbus Coffee Shop’ said, “The shop will not only serve coffee of America brand, the coffee at this shop is served in an environment matching with the American culture. This has ensured taste with style of high glamour”.
“Customers will have the environment as like as that in Ohio while enjoying coffee here. The coffee is prepared in a similar preparation here also. We are serving coffee of Ohio’s largest coffee supplier Crimson Cup Coffee.’’
Besides tasting coffee here, customers can also take beans at homes and we have the arrangement to provide beans in packets, he informed.
“Our coffee house will remain open from 11:00am till mid-night. Customers can taste coffee in three types - Espresso, Over Ice and Frozen. The entire shop is covered with Wi-Fi facilities,” he added.
Those who had already tasted this special best roasted Latin American coffee need no explanation about this. Because, they know the taste of Latin American coffee is a little bit different than that of Australian or some other countries.

Crimson Cup Coffee that started its journey in America in 1991 is now being served in 28 states across the United States. They have over 250 coffee shops.
Before serving this coffee in Dhaka, Crimson Cup Coffee shop, a concern of the Lion Group had to take some preparations.
As part of it, the manager and the customer service workers were sent to America for trainings. For this, the coffee at this shop is served in an environment matching with the American culture. This has ensured taste with style of high glamour.
Chairman Mirza Abdul Khaled and Director Sarfaraj Anwar Upal are working relentlessly to take the shop forward with the help of other directors - Tarek Rafi Bhuiyan and Ayesha Rawshan Bhuiyan.
