Duty reduced for renewable energy equipment

DHAKA: Finance minister AMA Muhith proposed to exempt the import duty on items related to renewable energy in the budget for FY 2015-16 aiming to promote the use of energy efficient and renewable energy run apparatus.

In his budget speech, Customs Duty (CD) rate on airtight storage bags with zipper has been proposed to exempt from existing 10 percent while biogas digester imported by VAT registered biogas plant from  5 percent, solar thermal water heater from 10 percent and solar powered lantern/lamps having no provision for electrical power from existing 25 percent.

The minister said, “I propose to continue the existing concessionary rates of duties and taxes on the imports leading to the development of power and energy sector”.

“Besides, in order to promote the use of energy efficient and renewable energy run apparatus, I propose to reduce and withdraw the customs duty on some specific items,” Muhith added.

However, nation on Thursday got highest ever Tk 2.95 lakh crore budget for 2015-16 fiscal year.
