DHAKA: Finance Minister AMA Muhith has proposed to increase taxes on certain daily essentials that will result the hike of their prizes.

The products include SIM card; fresh and frozen fish; flours; meals; Fish fillets – dried and salted; cold-water shrimps and prawns, butter and other fats and oils derived from milk; dairy spreads; tomatoes – fresh and chilled; vegetables – fresh and chilled; betelnuts, black tea (fermented) and partly fermented tea.

Prices of other black tea (fermented) and partly fermented tea will also be increased.

The list also include sulphuric acid; oleum; paints and varnishes; polishes; creams and similar preparations for footwear and leather; sodium salt of palmitic acid (soap noodle) imported by other; dioctyl orthophthalates; dinonyl or didecyl orthophthalates.

Prices of electric battery operated motor car will also be increased. According to the proposed budget, prices of four stroke motorcycle in CKD, other revolvers and pistols, seats of a kind used for motorcycle, unsorted diamonds and imitation jewelry will also hike.

Prices of tubes, pipes and hollow profiles, seamless, of iron, casing and tubing of a kind used in the drilling for oil or gas welded, of stainless steel8 inch inner dia or less, cooking appliances and plate warmers for gas fuel or for both gas and other fuels, other tempered safety glass and other laminated safety glass will also be increased.

Unframed other glass mirror, other framed glass mirror, paving blocks, slabs, bricks, squares, tiles, two-stroke engine for 3 wheeler/auto rickshaw, four-stroke engine for 3 wheeler/auto rickshaw, other transformer having a power handling capacity exceeding 1 kVA but not exceeding 16 kVA, other transformer having a power handling capacity exceeding 16 kVA but not exceeding 500 kVA, and all kinds of batteries are also in the list.

With a target of attaining a higher GDP growth of 7.0 percent in the fiscal year, finance minister AMA Muhith placed the budget for fiscal year 2015-16 before the parliament on Thursday.

Setting a tax revenue target of Tk 208,443 crore, the minister proposed the annual budget of Tk 295,000 crore.
