DHAKA: Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a loan of Tk 3,120-crore to construct dual-gage rail track between Dhaka and Chittagong.
A loan contract was signed between Bangladesh government and ADB at NEC Conference Room in She-e-Bangla Nagar in city on Sunday.
The ADB will provide the money for South Asian Sub-regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) to construct dual-gage rail track between Akhaura and Laksam.
Economic Relation Department (ERD) senior secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin and ADB country director Kazuhiko Higuchi signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
According to the agreement, a 72-km new rail track will be constructed between Akhaura and Laksam under this project. Moreover, modern equipment will be purchased for 11 railway stations.
After signing the deal, Mohammad Mejbahuddin told the media that the project will help implement regional railway and Trans Asian highway connectivity.
