BB releases Tk 22,000-cr new notes Thursday

DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank (BB) will release new notes of Tk 22,000-crores on Thursday ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims.

General people can exchange the old notes with the new ones, which include from the coin of Tk 1 to the note of Tk 1,000, at 18 branches of state-owned and commercial banks – four brunches of BB and 14 branches of commercial banks – in the city and elsewhere of the country.

Sources of BB’s Currency Management Department confirmed the matter to banglanews.

As in the previous years, the central bank has decided to release the new note to increase the festivity of Eid among people, said BB general manager AFM Asaduzzaman.

In city, new notes from Tk 1 to Tk 50 will be available at the branches of commercial banks including Jatrabari branch of National Bank Limited, Abdul Goni Road Corporate branch of Janata Bank Limited, Elephant Road branch of Agrani Bank Limited, Mirpur branch of Prime Bank Limited, Karwan Bazar branch of Southeast Bank Limited, Bashundgara City branch of Social Islami Bank Limited, Chawkbazar branch of Uttara Bank Limited, Gulshan branch of International Finance Investment and Commerce Bank Limited (IFIC), Uttara branch of Dhaka Bank Limited, Ramna branche of Sonali Bank Limited, Mohakhali branch of Rupali Bank Limited and Mohammadpur branch of First Security Islami Bank Limited.

New notes of Tk 100 to Tk 1,000 can be collected from Sadarghat branch of Pubali Bank Limited, New Market branches of Janata Bank Limited, Mouchak branch of Prime Bank Limited, Basabo branch of One Bank Limited, Shyamoli branch of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Dhanmondi branch of Bank Asia Limited, Banani branch of Mercantile Bank Limited, and SME and Agriculture branch of Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) at Dakkhin Khan.

Besides, the notes will also be available at four counters of BB Motijheel office and two counters of Chittagong office.

A team of the central bank, however, will monitor the distribution of the newly released notes at the branches, according to the BB sources.
