Trio placed on 10-day remand over cocaine smuggling

CHITTAGONG: A Court here granted 10-day remand to three officials of Cosco Shipping and Mondol Group over smuggling of cocaine in a container at the port.

Metropolitan Judge Farida Alam passed the order following a remand plea of police on Thursday.

On June 30, Customs intelligence arrested-- Atikur Rahman and Mostafa Kamal and AK Azadfrom-- from Dhaka for their suspected involvement in the smuggling of liquid cocaine concealed in a container of in an edible-oil consignment.

On June 6, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department of Chittagong found liquid cocaine from a container of sunflower oil, imported from Bolivia.

Sources confirmed that 185-kg of cocaine is found in one of the drums of the container.

Customs Intelligence became sure about the cocaine after completing two tests at two laboratories including Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in Dhaka.

On June 8, samples were taken from the container in presence of customs intelligence officials and sent it to laboratory for test.
