DHAKA: The Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Wednesday ordered all the scheduled banks to keep their branches in areas adjacent to ready made garments (RMG) factories open on July 11 (Saturday) to ease the payment of salary and allowances of RMG workers.
A notification, signed by BB deputy general manager Ibrahim Bhuiyan, was issued in this regard.
It said the decision was taken after a request by Bangladesh Garment Manufactures & Exporters Association (BGMEA) authorities to ease the payment of salary and allowances to RMG workers before the eid.
This is why, the branches of scheduled banks at RMG factory areas of Dhaka, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Narayanganj and Chittagong have to be kept open, the notification added.
The central bank also ordered the banks to pay due allowances to the bank officials for working on the holiday.
Besides, the order upheld the previous order of keeping the AD braches of all commercial banks at airport, seaport and land port areas open on Friday and Saturday and AD branches of other commercial areas on Saturday.
