DHAKA: Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Atiqul Islam said that his organization will provide a roadmap of earning 50-bln dollars from readymade garments (RMG) export by 2021.

He made the disclosure at a press conference at BGMEA building in city on Sunday noon.

Atiqul said draft of the roadmap will be presented to the government at a three-day apparel safety and exposition program to begin at Radisson hotel in port city Chittagong on August 6.

Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed will inaugurate the event on the day, he added.

According to the BGMEA president, details of the roadmap will be handed over to the commerce minister during the event.

He further said that they will arrange the exhibition in the port city as 95 percent of country’s total export and import activities are held at Chittagong seaport.

Mentioning fuel crisis a top hindrance to RMG industry, the BGMEA president said that it will not be difficult to earn 50 bln dollars from RMG export if energy supply to the factories remains undisrupted.

He also mentioned political unrest as another obstacle to be solved for the expansion of RMG products.

BGMEA vice-presidents Riaz Bin Mahmud and Mohammad Shahidullah Azim and its former vice-president Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman, among others, were present at the conference.
