DHAKA: A permanent trade fairground will be constructed on a 20-acre land in city’s Purbachal area to attract more foreign customers.
The Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) is annually being arranged in Agargaon since December 1 in 1995.
Moreover, two large hall rooms will also be constructed on the fair premises, which will also provide space of parking for 1,500 cars, press center, information center, conference rooms, and so on.
The fairground will be constructed with Tk 796-crore under ‘Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre’ project, to be implemented by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) by June of 2018.
However, China will provide Tk 626-crore while the rest of the money will come from government fund.
EPB vice-chairman Shubhashish Basu told banglanews that the organization regularly arranges DITF in Agargoan as a temporary place. Under friendship project the fairground will be constructed in Purbachal as its permanent venue.
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) has already allocated 20-acre land in the area following the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said sources of EPB.
According to the sources, a design, done by Beijing architectural design institute, has also been finalized.
Planning Commission sources said that the project is expected to get final nod from Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday.
