DHAKA: A three-day Bangladesh Apparel & Safety Exposition kicked off in Chittagong on Thursday with the aim of promoting the vision of USD 50 billion garment exports by 2021.
Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed inaugurated the exposition at Radisson Blu this morning where first vice-president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Nasir Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury delivered welcome speech.
The event is being held at Mejban hall of Radisson Blu where participants are showcasing their products in 73 stalls, including 17 for RMG, one for fabrics, two for garment accessories, one for garment fabrics (local), 18 for machineries, 25 for fire equipments, seven for service providers and two of BGMEA.
Four seminars titling – (I) Branding Bangladesh, (II) Training and Developing Skills for Strong, Sustainable & Balanced Growth, (III) Financing Apparel Growth and (VI) Capacity Building of port, customs, power & infrastructure to reach 50 billion USD in 2021 – will be held as part of the exposition.
According to the organizers, representatives from renowned companies from different countries are participating at the event. Byers Forum also took part in the expo.
Ambassadors of different countries including the United States, the United Kingdom and European Union attended the event.
Local and foreign experts and government representatives of partner countries, international agencies, and private entrepreneurs, workers representatives, civil society representatives, brand buyers, academics and media personalities took part in the expo.
BGMEA, in a previous press briefing, said that the exposition aims to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders in 4 informative seminars to devise ways for Bangladesh to pursue its USD 50 billion vision and become a premium brand worldwide by 2021.
It will explore every avenue towards achieving the vision set in the Dhaka Apparel Summit in 2014.
The safety pavilion of the event is purposed to acquaint local apparel manufacturers with wide range of safety equipment and service providers.
