DHAKA: A total of 12 thousands farmer families will be brought under crop-insurance project, the speakers at a workshop said.
Besides, the farmers will be informed about the climate risk, they added.
The speakers made the disclosure while addressing the program titled ‘Climate-index based crop-insurance pilot project’ at CIRDAP auditorium in city Thursday noon.
Bank and financial institution division secretary Dr MA Aslam Alam was chief guest of the workshop arranged by Sadharan Bima Corporation (SBC).
Moreover, the speakers informed the audiences that 20 more weather offices are going to be set up in Rajshahi, Noakhali and Sirajganj districts in next three months.
Insurance Development and Control Authorities (IDRA) member M Kuddus Khan, Asian Development Bank (ADB) country director Kazuhiko Higuchi, ADB senior economist Rezaul K Khan, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) deputy director Shamsuddin Ahmed, Sadharan Bima Corporation (SBC) managing director M Rezaul Karin, among others, spoke at the workshop, with SBC chairman Dr M Sohrab Uddin in the chair.
Bank and financial institution division has initiated to set up the new weather offices which will be implemented jointly by SBC and BMD with the financial support of ADB.
