DHAKA: Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan said that the government mulls to give more time to owners of tannery to shift their factories to Savar.
“Tannery industries to be shifted in July next instead of December this year,” the minister said this after coming out of the 29th meeting of Task Force Committee on river port protection at his ministry in city on Wednesday.
Shahjahan Khan said that they had decided to complete installation of Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) by December.
Some 75 percents work has already been done, he added.
According to the minister, they are going to set July next year as deadline to shift tanneries.
It will be finalized after discussion with industries minister, he added.
Water resources minster Anisul Islam Mahmud, liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque, power division state minister Nasrul Hamid, among others, were present at the meeting.
