NCT goes into operation from Oct 1

CHITTAGONG: After eight years of its construction in 2007, much talked about New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port is going to be operational from October 1.

Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Rear Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed Wednesday noon said operation will be started at fourth and fifth berths of the NCT.

While talking to reporters after a meeting at port, Rear Admiral Nizamuddin said that operations of NCT will be started from October 1. Chittagong Port Authority appointed a private operator to run the terminal. They will bring required equipments soon. Then operational activities will be run from fourth and fifth berths.

He said though the terminal was constructed in eight years ago unfortunately, it could not be operated. So, a contract was singed with a private operator to run the NCT as soon as possible.

NCT’s 4 and 5 numbers berth operator Saif Powertech managing director Tarafder Ruhul Amin said, “We have 1 month and 10 days in hands to go to operation.  By this time, we have to be prepared. We will have to purchase equipments.”
