India hikes onion export price by 64pc

HILI (DINAJPUR): India hiked the minimum export price of onion sharply by $275 per tonne that is about 64 per cent in a bid to control spiraling retail prices that reached Rs 80 per kg.

The export price has been increased to $705 (Tk 54,861) from $430 (Tk 33,444) per tonne.

The new price will be implemented from Tuesday onwards.

Confirming the matter, Hili land port export-import president Harun Ar Rashid told banglanews that Hili customs received a letter with directives in this regard Monday evening.

He, however, said the price hike will not have any substantial impact on the onion price in the markets of Bangladesh as they will import onion by amending earlier LCs.
