Bangladesh, Mexico sign MoU for regular consultations

DHAKA: Bangladesh and Mexico signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to hold regular bilateral political consultations between two nations.

The first even Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) between Bangladesh and Mexico will take place in Dhaka, said press release of ministry of foreign affairs.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam signed the agreement on FOC with the Mexican Foreign Minister José Antonio Meade Kuribreña at the Mexican Foreign Ministry Wednesday afternoon.

Signing of this MOU will herald a new beginning of bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Mexico.

This MOU was signed at the eve of 40th anniversary of bilateral relationship between the two nations.

After the signing ceremony, both the Ministers discussed in details the entire gamut of bilateral relationship in a cordial atmosphere.

Both side agreed to engage in intense dialogue through this MOU.

Mexican Foreign Minister stated that Mexico is aware of the need of opening their Embassy in Bangladesh. He hoped to open the Mexican Mission in Bangladesh at their earliest convenience.

Accepted the invitation of Shahriar Alam, the Mexican Minister expressed his interest to visit Bangladesh soon.

In the morning, the State Minister held fruitful discussions with the Presidents and Director Generals of the leading apparel manufacturing companies of Mexico at a breakfast meeting including with Samuel Gershevich Salnicov, President of Textiles Associations of Mexico.

The State Minister’s visit has generated huge interest among the Mexican business people about Bangladesh. After learning from the State Minister, they seemed to consider Bangladesh as a promising destination of Mexican investments, the ministry hoped.

Mexican business people also expressed their readiness to come and visit Bangladesh to explore the trade and investment opportunities there, possibly at the end of this year, the release added.

To publicize Bangladeshi products in Mexico, they suggested participating at two mega expositions, one is ‘Intermoda Fair’ and another is ‘Puebla Fair’, to be held in January 2016.

Instead of holding a single country trade fair, they viewed that participation of Bangladesh at this fair would be more effective in creating a market for its products and assured their all out support in this regard.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico Supradip Chakma, Director General (Americas), Counsellor of Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico, and Director (tate Minister’s Office) accompanied the State Minister during the meetings.
