Hype of legality in Malaysia is baseless

DHAKA: Officials concerned have cautioned about the media hype that the illegal migrants will be given legality in Malaysia. They have further advised the expatriates not to be trapped by this baseless publicity.

On September 4, in two articles published in English dailies -- ‘The Star and ‘The Sun’ it was told that the immigration company ‘My EG’ has been appointed to register illegal foreign workers.

According to the company, it was part of the consortium, which received an appointment letter from the Immigration Department to undertake the registration.

The company thinks that the project is to increase the total number of legal foreign workers in the country.

However, the articles did not mention any clear terms.

Meanwhile, a number of news media both online portals and print versions have started mass publicity that the illegal Bangladeshi migrants are getting opportunity to be legal.

From this misinterpretation of news and baseless publicity some opportunists groups will gain in a fraudulent way, observed by some Bangladeshi community leaders.

However, Labor Counselor of Bangladesh High Commission Shahidul Islam Mukul told banglanews on Tuesday that they have no information about it.

“Even we did not receive any letter from any authority,” he added.

He also cautioned the people concerned about such publicity.

It may be mentioned here that in 2011, illegal Bangladeshis were given opportunities to be legal. After that during last few years a number of fraud organizations have squeezed money from the illegal migrants in the name of making them legal but all were cheated.

The community leaders have further cautioned about such apprehensions.
