DHAKA: The third ‘Foodpro Bangladesh’ fair, showcasing the processed food stuff, has begun in city on Wednesday afternoon.

Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the fair as chief guest while state minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam was present as special guest at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre this evening.

Amu said that his incumbent government has given importance on agro-based industries in 2015.

According to him, the industries ministry has been working to make nutrition-rich food stuff available to the consumers for several years.

Moreover, a law to make marketing vitamin-A-rich edible oil compulsory will be formulated soon, he added.

The state-owned sugar-mills will use sugar-bits as an alternative of sugarcanes to produce sugar, the minister added.

Shahriar Alam said that after-sale-service of all machineries including agro-technology-based equipments should be ensured in the country.

Organized by Bangladesh Agro Processors Association (BAPA) and European Union’s Bangladesh Inspired Project and Extreme Exhibition and Event Solutions, the four-day fair will remain open to all from 10:00am to 8:00pm till October 17.

According to the organizers, as many as 230 stalls of 130 enterprises from India, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Germany, Singapore, Japan, The Netherlands, Turkey, Malaysia and Indonesia, have been set up in the fairground.
