DHAKA: Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Siddiqur Rahman commented that Bangladesh readymade garments (RMG) are facing pressure in global market.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal will increase the pressure, he added.
He made this assertion at a press conference on the overall situation in RMG sector at its office in city on Saturday afternoon.
‘The devaluation of euro against US dollar has made us loser as we are currently exporting 60% of Bangladesh RMG in European Union countries.’
In a question on TPP, Siddiqur Rahman said that the deal will hamper Bangladesh RMG export to the US as one of the TPP members and also one of the top Bangladesh RMG rivals Vietnam will get free access to the US market.
BGMEA vice president, directors and high-ups also present at the press conference.
