DHAKA: Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday said the foundation of the economy of Bangladesh is stronger now.
She also said we need to ensure the participation of women and make future plans synthesizing the economies of urban and rural areas to make it firmer.
Dr Chaudhury was addressing the second conference of Bangladesh Economists’ Forum (BEF) at the training academy of Bangladesh Bank (BB) in city’s Mirpur area.
She also unveiled a collection of essays by leading economists under the title “Bangladesh Vision 2030: Framework for Economic Policy Making and Strategy Formulation in a Pluralistic Democracy” at the first session of the conference.
The essays details out an inclusive and sustainable vision for Bangladesh and identifies challenges that needs meticulous attention for sustaining the progress.
Dr Mohiuddin Alamgir discussed about the insights from the publication.
Speaker said Bangladesh was a role model in empowering women but it needs to include women more in economic, social and political activities to strengthen the foundation of this empowering.
She also put emphasis on promoting women’s access to education and training in technology.
Mentioning that now-a-days, Bangladesh is no more a bottomless basket, she said Bangladesh was rapidly moving forward in every sector including gender parity and reducing child and maternal mortality rate.
She also expressed hope about attaining the SDGs rapidly like MDGs.
She also lauded the incumbent government for its achievement and expected it would lead Bangladesh to step into a developed country by 2040.
BB governor Dr Atiur Rahman presided over the program where Dr Sadik Ahmed, Dr Mohiuddin Alamgir and Dr Mustafa Kamal Mujeri, among others, addressed here.
Established in 2013, BEF aims to bring together best possible analysis and knowledge on major development issues and challenges facing Bangladesh and help the policymakers’ debate and decide on related public policies and institutions.
