DHAKA: Bangladesh has signed a total of 3 billion USD with four USA and Singapore based firms on Friday (on November 13), the opening day of UK-Bangladesh E-commerce fair in London.
Bangladesh Hi-tech Park managing director Hosne Ara Begum, on behalf of Bangladesh Government signed the agreements, in presence of commerce minister Tofail Ahmed and state minister of information and technology Junaid Ahmed Palak.
On the other hand, Chairman of Seamark Group Iqbal Ahmed OBE, Telecom Asia chief executive Mohammad Shahfayet Alam and Techshed Ltd UK managing director Sushanta Das Gupta signed the agreements on behalf of respective sides.
Singapore-based IT firm Telecom Asia chief executive Mohammad Shahfayet Alam said they are considering mobile payment gateway, triple play, IT & telecommunications consumer product and specialized technology park as their investor sectors.
Tofail Ahmed inaugurated the two-day ‘E-Commerce Fair’ at Oriental Hotel in London.
In his speech, Tafail said, “Bangladesh is the country of rapidly growing economy among the Southeast Asian countries. It will be pioneer in information technology sector in Southeast Asian regions.”
During the time, he urged Bangladesh expatriates in UK to invest their home country.
Conservative Party MP John Alan Redwood, Conservative Party MP Paul Scully, Computer Jagat CEO Abdul Wahed Tomal, the, and NRB Bank Chairman Iqbal Ahmed OBE, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Abdul Matlub Ahmad and event director Rahim Mia also spoke the inaugural program.
