DHAKA: Singapore has joined hands with Bangladesh to set up a 14-Megawatt coal-based power plant in Matarbari in Cox’s Bazar district.
Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore on this matter on Wednesday (9th December).
Both the countries will finance 50% each in this project. They will also have same percentage of ownership on the plant.
Coal Power Generation Company of Bangladesh, a state-run organization and Sembcorp Utilities Ltd, the state-run organization of Singapore, will set up the plant as a joint venture.
According to the MoU, the plant will start power generation by 2022.
