DHAKA: Chairman of Ha-meem Group and publisher of the dail+y Samakal AK Azad has been elected president of the of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), country’s apex trade body.
Besides, Jasimuddin and Mostafa Azad Chowdhury have been elected 1st and 2nd vice-president of the federation respectively.
The three were elected unanimously by 28 elected and 16 nominated directors at a board meeting at the FBCCI Monday.
Election board president professor Ali Ashraf officially announced the results at 4:40 pm at the federation office.
Earlier, at the biennial election held Saturday, the voters elected 14 directors from chamber group and 14 directors from the association group to lead the FBCCI in the 2010-12 tenure.
As per rule, eight directors were nominated from the trade association group and as many from chambers’ one along with the elected directors who will run the FBCCI. The total members of the FBCCI executive committee are 44, including the president.
Most of the elected directors were from the panel led by the former BCCI president, AK Azad.
“Although we have been elected from different panels, we will work together from now, ” said the newly elected president of the organization, AK Azad, to reporters later.
