DHAKA: South Asian University (SAU) will commence its first academic session from August 23 with 50 students.
The last date for application will end on July 10, according to the SAU.
The New Delhi-based university invited applications from prospective students from SAARC member countries for two academic programs – Masters in Development Economics and Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) for 2010-11 session.
Officials said the university will introduce 12 faculties in its first phase by 2014. In the second phase, Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences will be opened.

The SAU will open campuses in all the SAARC member countries.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh is taking preparation to open campus in its capital Dhaka.
Md. Sufiur Rahman, Director General for SAARC at the Foreign Ministry told banglanews24.com.bd that preparations are underway to have campus in Dhaka.
India provided land for its campus. However, classes for the first batch will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
“The SAU will focus on research and postgraduate level programmes,” Rahman said.
The University will have 7000 students and 700 teachers.
